📍 Region: Littoral, Cameroon

✨ A Nutrition Campaign to Empower a Healthier Generation
As part of the campaign “Healthy Food Choices Matter: Save the Next Generation, Regulate Junk Food”, our field teams reached out to more than 3,800 students, teachers, and school staff across four schools in the Littoral region of Cameroon.
The goal? Raise awareness about the harmful effects of ultra-processed foods and promote healthier eating habits, starting from childhood.
🏫 4 Schools Visited, 3,822 People Reached
In total, four schools hosted our awareness activities:
📆 Date 🏫 Institution 👥 Estimated Participants
Sept. 19 CEGET Bonaberi 1,800
Sept. 26 FAPASS Bonaberi 650
Sept. 29 DAAS Campus A 1,300
Oct. 3 Les Lyss Primary School, Beedi 72
Each session featured short, engaging interventions, distribution of flyers, poster displays, and interactive discussions with students and staff.
🧠 Key Takeaways
✅ Children are listening! Even the youngest students showed a genuine interest in nutrition, especially through fun, simple messaging.
✅ School leadership matters: At CEGET Bonaberi, discussions were initiated around revising the school canteen’s menu.
✅ Visual tools are powerful: Flyers and posters helped reinforce the key messages.
✅ Short sessions, big impact: Well-structured interventions lasting 5–20 minutes proved effective in capturing attention.
⚠️ Challenges Encountered
- Language barrier: The absence of English-language materials limited reach in bilingual schools.
💡 Bilingual content is being developed for future campaigns. - Noise during school breaks: Background noise made communication more difficult.
💡 Messages were adapted to be shorter and more impactful.
🚀 What’s Next?
This campaign has laid the groundwork for a long-term shift toward healthier school environments. Recommended next steps include:
- Producing bilingual materials (French/English) to broaden reach in anglophone schools;
- Strengthening the involvement of school canteens in promoting nutritious meals;
- Establishing follow-up visits to reinforce and sustain the impact in schools already reached.
