Within the framework of community health research and promotion activities and the need to seek innovative responses to attaining the SDG No. 3, The Phytobiotechnology Research Foundation Institute (PRF) and a team of researchers from Value Health Africa/Value Health Insitute of Research, the District Hospital Fontem, and the Department of Health Economics, Policy and Management-Catholic University of Cameroon (Bamenda) were recently honoured by the Insight Medical Publishing group, following the publication of a ground breaking research article on Prostate Cancer Research in Cameroon.
Accepted on the 24th of August 2017, this study was published for public consumption and widespread disemmination in September 2017. Using a cross sectional simple random sampling technique, 231 target male volunteers, aged 40 years and above, were used as participants for the study. The research revealed that out of this target population who consented via an exit poll, 45 (19.5%) had a PSA value greater than 4 ng/ml and 68 (28.1%) had a suspicious digital rectal examination.
In this regard, the authors recommended a health promotion framework involving individuals and communities in cameroon on the awareness and risk factors associated with prostate cancer for men above forty, as a preventive measure to embark upon in the future.
